Writing historical fiction is a carefully choreographed dance. One side of the stage is filled with untold hours of well-researched facts and details. More than you could ever include in one story. On the other side of the stage is the delicate weaving of these facts into the lives of people who lived long ago.…

Hello to my New York Friends!

  1. I’m currently reading “Catalyntje Trico…”

I’m descended from those early colonists (Pieter Wycoff) so the story is very interesting to me. I’ve also read Russell Shorto’s book “Island at the Center…” with equal interest.

The purpose of this note is really to encourage you …well done and thank you for the enjoyable story.

    1. I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed my novel. I appreciate the encouragement and am continuing with another historical novel set in New Amsterdam. And, as a point of interest to you, there is a brief mention about your Wycoff family :o)

  2. Just finished reading Catalyntje Trico (still not sure of pronunciation). I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the daily struggles of early American settlers and how they coped with the trials and tribulations of those days. My favorites parts were how the women saved seeds to pass on to their family and friends and how the midwives came to help the young women bear children. The homemade bench and the planted tree are such a beautiful part of their lives and continue for others to enjoy. Thank you for a great book .

    1. Thank you for your kind words. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed traveling through New Netherland with Cat-a-lawn-cha. :o) She was a truly inspiring woman. I have had many people reach out, asking me to write another book about her. I included many details in this book, however, I am currently writing a second novel set in New Netherland about Trijn, the midwife that lived on the same street as Catalyntje. Their lives were intertwined so it will include more about Catalyntje.
